Poem: “Put This Down” (notebooks, Jim Stallings)

Put this down

In your notebook,

That I didn’t squeal.

You’ve become a problem.

Your performance grates

On the nerves of key folk

With an eye to the future

Where past loyalties

How can I put this—

Just don’t matter.

You have to know

Who your enemies are

And those well-fed

Comfortable types

Make for a nervous

Response among those

On the road

To the Future.
