Poem: “You Were Sweet & Tart”

You were sweet & tart

That’s what you said

And indeed feasting

On your pleasures

Engorged my every desire.

A plump pudding

I became in time

Remarked upon by all

My heart swelled

With sanguine pride

Humor red fitting you

As we dined at will

From city gate club

To country manor

And stage coach inn.

Happiness, you were wont to say,

Is a hot meal at decent price.
